Cucumbers have always been an integral part of the diet of each person. Their breeding is considered one of the most important tasks of the gardener. Summer salad is unthinkable without a juicy and crispy cucumber. And how everyone loves pickles in the winter! None of the garden does not do without growing cucumbers. Gardeners first thing they begin to engage in planting seeds and breeding vegetable seedlings. Everyone can not wait to taste the fragrant and delicate cucumber as early as possible. The grower Zozulya, a hybrid number one in greenhouses and garden beds, meets the desire of the gardener. It grows quickly and gives the desired yield as soon as possible. The variety is considered one of the most popular and widely used. Cucumbers "Zozulya" occupy an honorable place, almost in all gardens of the country.
Description varieties "Zozulya"
Variety "Zozulya" refers to hybrids and is designated F1. Cucumbers are considered early ripening, the plant needs about 40-45 days before the fruit is fully poured. The variety is suitable for growing both in greenhouses and in the open field. The plant has a partial self-pollination, the main flowers in the bloom are female flowers. This feature allows you to plant vegetables year-round in greenhouses, which gardeners use when they grow cucumbers for sale.
Features of a structure and advantages of a grade:
- The size of the fruit is from 10 to 30 cm in length.
- The surface is usually smooth or rarely knobby.
- The branching of the vegetable is average, the lateral branch is limited. This allows the gardener not to worry about staving. It is not necessary in the case of the variety "Zozulya".
- Vegetable has a delicate, juicy taste without bitterness. Fruits can be used for salting, salads and canning - cucumbers are universal.
- The grade gives a plentiful harvest.
- Crop harvested for quite a long period. Usually gardeners plant a couple of bushes of cucumbers "Zozulya" and several late-ripening varieties in order to harvest throughout the season.
Cucumbers of this variety are popular due to the abundance of the crop, taste and long-term fruiting. Seedlings sprout amicably, as the plant begins to bear fruit evenly. The variety is well resistant to diseases such as cucumber mosaic, frost. But prone to root and white rot. However, this will not happen if the care of the plant is correct. Growing a variety is simple, but there are some nuances and peculiarities. Their observance will allow to collect a good harvest and enjoy juicy, fragrant cucumbers.
Growing cucumbers "zozulya": seedlings and its landing
Most gardeners sow seeds in early spring - seedling method of cultivation. The method is considered one of the most effective, as it allows you to harvest earlier. Hybrid seeds, as a rule, are already pickled and disinfected by the manufacturer. Therefore, preplant activities for the variety are not needed. But many gardeners soak the seeds before planting them in containers for seedlings. So the seed quickly germinate. Seeds are usually planted a month before planting in a greenhouse or open ground.
The substrate is light and fertile. The usual garden earth with addition of a small amount of charcoal for disinfection will approach also. Seedlings desirable to grow in peat pots. Seeds are buried 1-2 cm depending on the soil - heavy or light. Seedlings after sowing close the film and put on the windowsill or any other place. As soon as the seedlings appear, the film is removed and the seedlings are placed in a bright and warm place.
The temperature for growing is from 20 ° to 23 °.
In addition to the seedling method of cultivation, you can apply the seedless method. Seeds are planted directly into the ground when there is no longer a threat of frost. However, planted seeds in open ground are covered with foil or non-woven material. So the seeds quickly germinate. But if cucumbers are grown in the northern regions, it is better to use the seedling method. It is much more efficient and will allow cucumbers to ripen in time. When planting seeds, always keep an eye on the distance between them. One seed sits in a separate glass for seedlings. When planting seed in open ground, the distance between the seeds will be approximately 20-30 cm.
Care for seedlings and adult plants
Care tips for cucumbers:
- As soon as the young sprouts of cucumbers hatch, it is necessary to remove the film and put them in a bright and warm place.
- Seedlings plants varieties "Zozulya" need to be watered quite often - once every two days. But overmoistening the plant is undesirable; root rot may appear.
- This variety does not like dampness, the soil should pass water and air well.
- Also watch out for possible pests. They can welcome in case of very high air temperatures, drying the soil. You can fight them with the help of the drug "Fitoverm".
- Cucumber seedlings do not like drafts and temperature extremes. The same can be said about an adult plant. Try not to expose cucumbers to these conditions.
- Transplanting seedlings begins in May, when the soil is warm enough. Usually this type of cucumber is planted in greenhouses. For this, small depressions are made in the prepared soil — garden soil mixed with well-rotted humus. In the northern regions, gardeners often make an "underground" strip of humus. A small trench is dug up and filled with humus. Closed on top of the usual garden land. This measure allows you to warm the soil and supply the plants with nutrients during the entire growing season.
- Do not forget that cucumbers are a heat-loving plant. The air temperature in the greenhouse should be 24 ° -28 °. In order for the moisture from the soil to not evaporate quickly, make a mulch from mowed grass. Spread it in the hole of the plant. So the soil will almost always be wet, the number of weeds will decrease.
- During the growing season in time to collect the fruit.
- If the bush began to branch, try to maintain the temperature in the greenhouse 18 ° -23 °. But with this variety this happens very rarely.
- It is not necessary to graze the plant.
It is enough to monitor the irrigation, control the aeration process and feed the pets with complex fertilizers if humus has not been added to the soil.
Characteristics varieties Zozulya
Zozulya is an early ripe hybridwhich has a thin crunchy skin. This variety was bred by the Agricultural Research Institute in 1977 and quickly gained popularity with gardeners. Cucumbers Zozulya, characteristic that makes them one of the best early ripening varieties, are popular with summer residents. This early-ripening variety, which allows you to get the first harvest as early as 45 days after germination.
Large-fruited variety that can reach a weight of 300 grams and 20 centimeters long. Ripe cucumber Zozulya has a characteristic cylindrical shape and mild tubercula. The color is dark green with barely visible light stripes. Thorns are light and small. It should be noted partially self-pollinated, which allows the gardener to be relieved of the need to plant in the immediate vicinity of pollinator varieties.
The grown crop has a soft, pronounced, slightly sweet taste. With proper care, Zozul cucumber will be completely devoid of characteristic bitterness. Cucumber Zozulya is a versatile varietywhich at the same time perfectly is suitable for the use in food fresh or for the subsequent salting and preservation. Ripe vegetables are distinguished by excellent keeping quality, which allows for a long time to store the harvest.
Providing appropriate conditions from one square meter of bed for one month, you can get up to 12 kilograms of harvest, and subsequently up to 20 kilograms of tasty cucumbers. This variety is resistant to olive blotch, root decay and cucumber mosaic. Note that with the same success, Zozulya can be grown in open ground, under film, on a balcony or windowsill. When grown in a warm heated greenhouse, the harvest can be obtained all year round.
Cucumber Zozulya - the rules of cultivation
First of all, it is necessary for a gardener to decide on a bed where the seedlings will be planted later. The best predecessors are considered potatoes, peppers, onions and cabbage. Directly preparation of beds is not difficult. It is preferable to choose a well-lit area for the bed, which is well protected from strong winds. It is necessary to make a small amount of humus, and the addition of complex mineral fertilizers with potassium and nitrogen improves the fruiting performance. Such preparation of beds is carried out no later than two weeks before the expected date of planting seedlings in the ground.
From the quality of the material used directly depends on yield and ease of care for plantings. Used seeds must be calibrated and subsequently immediately before planting, soak in a nitroammophore or prepared independently nutritional composition. For the preparation of such a nutrient composition it is necessary to dissolve one tablespoon of wood ash in one liter of warm water.
Growing seedlings can be done in two ways:
- Sprouting seeds in gauze.
- Growing seedlings in sawdust.
Sprouting cucumbers varieties Zozulya in gauze widespread, due to the simplicity and efficiency of this method. You will need a small container in which you lay gauze moistened with water and folded in several layers. Next, at a distance of 1-2 centimeters, they lay out the seeds of cucumbers and cover them with several layers of wet gauze on top.
If the selected method using sawdustthen dry the material should be boiled over and then cooled to room temperature. A small container is laid out with a permeable fabric and dry seeds are laid out on top of it. The cloth and seeds are covered with a thin layer of sawdust, and then slightly moistened with water. After deploying the cotyledons, germinated seeds should be carefully planted in the pot.
When growing seedlings, it is necessary to observe the temperature regime and regularly water young plants. Landings will require the following temperatures:
- Immediately before the appearance of the first leaflets, the optimum temperature is 28 degrees.
- After germination, the temperature should be kept at 20-22 degrees.
- Seedlings, which have already appeared several full leaves, kept at temperatures no higher than 20 degrees.
On cloudy days, it is recommended to additionally illuminate the plants, for which phytolamps with a red spectrum of illumination can be used.
A week before the expected date of planting seedlings in open ground should be held hardening procedure. To do this, in sunny, windless weather, pots with seedlings are taken to the balcony for 15-20 minutes.
Important. Remember that young seedlings of Zozulya variety do not tolerate temperature drops and drafts.
It is also possible to plant cucumbers of the variety Zozulya directly by seeds in open ground or in a greenhouse. In this case The following rules must be observed:
- Per square meter beds planted no more than 3 seedlings.
- Landing is possible only at the end of May, when there is no threat of frost.
- The soil should warm up to at least 15 degrees.
Important. It is possible to plant Zozul cucumber in open ground in the southern regions, where frosts are not observed as early as May, and night temperatures do not fall below 10 degrees.
The best soils for planting cucumbers of this variety are medium-loamy soils filled with organic fertilizers with good air permeability.
How to plant seedlings on the garden
We offer you quite simple rules for planting cucumber seedlings of this variety:
- Seedlings are planted on the 25th day after germination. As a rule, seedlings appear by this time four full leaves.
- The root system should well braid earthen room.
- Planted seedlings in wells with a diameter of about 40 centimeters.
- Seedlings should be planted together with a lump of earth without damaging the roots.
- Up to three plants can be planted in one well, later performed by thinning.
- After planting, seedlings are watered abundantly.
- The soil must be mulched.
- Land should be covered with a film or other heat-shielding material.
Planting and harvesting
Provide proper care landing will guarantee a great harvest. Gardeners will need to perform proper watering of the plants, conduct regular weed removal and properly feed the vegetables.
During the growing season it will be necessary to perform at least three feedings. Fertilizers with a mineral base, which contain nitrogen and potassium, should be introduced before the seedlings start flowering. After flowering during the formation of ovaries, a mixture of manure and urea can be used to feed the plants. To prepare such a mixture, 100 grams of urea and a liter of manure are added to a bucket of water. Also during the period of active fruiting you can use ready-made complex fertilizers called Aelita vegetable.
Watering landings performed exclusively warm water settled. It is strictly forbidden to use cold water from a well for these purposes, which will immediately lead to various plant diseases and a significant deterioration in yield. Watering is done early in the morning or in the evening, when the heat of the day is over.
In the process of growth in adult plants can be observed the so-called exposure of the roots. To solve this problem by hilling bushes. Simultaneously with such hilling should remove all weeds that may contribute to the development of various diseases in the vegetable crop.
To improve yields and as a preventive measure for various diseases, eliminate contact of the lashes and ripening crop with the ground. For these purposes, you can use a covering material or ordinary black plastic film.
Do not forget also about the necessity of tying cucumber lash, which will ensure the simplification of the harvest, and the vegetable will be excellent fruit, allowing you to get a good harvest. Tie a lash should be as soon as they reach 50 centimeters in length. They can be let through the ropes, which are stretched horizontally to the installed vertical support. Proper garter will allow you to not only get a great harvest, but also ensures maximum efficiency in the use of the available area of the beds.
According to its description, Cucumber Zozulya refers to self-pollinating, therefore additional pollinators will not be required to it. However, experienced gardeners recommend to plant several male plants on one row, which will ensure improved yields. Also for cross-pollination can be planted various other varieties of cucumber hybrids.
This vegetable type is loved by novice gardeners for ease of care. Working on pinching and pinching is possible, but it is not necessary. Pinching is the removal of a part of the green ovary that is formed, which strengthens the remaining ovaries, ensuring their rapid maturation and improvement in yield. Passing means to inform one powerful main stem and remove lateral processes. In varieties Zozulya pasynkovanie can be carried out as follows. Up to the sixth leaf, all lateral processes are removed, after which the ovary is left with one stepchild, and then the appending processes are removed to the basics.
Attention. Cucumber Zozulya does not tolerate a lack of moisture and high temperatures. That is why the gardener should regularly water the plantings, and when grown in greenhouses, it will be necessary to provide high-quality airing of the greenhouse.
Cucumber Zozulya has a great yield, so you can literally harvest a crop every day. It should be noted that such frequent harvesting of ripened fruits allows improving yield indicators.
Cucumber Zozulya due to its yield, excellent taste characteristics and ease of cultivation enjoyed by gardeners. We can recommend them to both experienced summer residents and novice gardeners, who, even with such minimal care, will be able to get a magnificent harvest of delicious crispy cucumbers. The description of this vegetable offered by us in this article will allow everyone to get an excellent harvest with ease.
Description of cucumber variety Zozulya
Zozulya is a cucumber variety bred by domestic breeders. It was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements in 1977 and is zoned for most Russian regions, among them:
- Central Black Earth,
- North Caucasus,
Recommended for cultivation in greenhouses. Productivity - from 10 to 12 kg per 1 m 2. It is possible to collect the first fruits in 46–48 days after emergence of shoots. Cucumbers usually have a length of 14 to 24 cm. Their mass is 150–300 g. The fruits are cylindrical, sometimes with a slight bend. The skin is thin, it has small grooves and rare tubercles. Color is saturated green. Cucumbers do not outgrow, they can keep their presentation for a long time. Fruits are tasty, suitable for salads and preservation.
- olive spot.
Seed preparation before planting
For good germination of hybrid seed, it is imperative to bust, discarding empty and unusable seeds. Calibrated seed is soaked for several hours in a growth promoter. Some gardeners prefer biological products "Ecosil", "Emistim", "Acrobat MC". Others use the old-fashioned method, which consists in preparing a special solution from equal parts of wood ash, a nitroammofoski and 1 liter of warm water. Note that not all vegetable growers conduct seedbed treatment of hybrids. Many consider that such grains do not need such events and warming up.
Sowing seeds for seedlings
Agrarians practice the cultivation of cucumber plants, both seedling and seedless. But in the first variant more active vegetation is noted than in the second. Therefore, many previously planted the prepared seed in the peat pills purchased: the first thing they put in disposable plastic cups and watered abundantly. And when the content is fully saturated with moisture and softens, the grain is deepened with a finger one and a half centimeters. Top cover with a second cup, creating the conditions of the greenhouse. Such a technology of growing any seedlings has earned positive feedback from gardening enthusiasts, since it does not require a dive and protects the root system from injury during transplantation.
Care for cucumber seedlings
Cucumbers "Zozulya" throughout the growing season - from planting to harvest - require some attention. We will understand everything in order.
Capacities with cucumber shoots need to be put on the southern windowsill, where it is always warm and light. In case of strong sunshine, it is advisable to shade the window so that the lighting is diffused, otherwise young sprouts may suffer from burns.
If it is not possible to grow seedlings on the sunny side, it will be necessary to additionally install fluorescent lamps so that the cucumbers are lit for 12-16 hours. Otherwise, the shoots will stretch greatly, will be fragile and thin.
In a room where cucumber seedlings are cultivated, it should be dry and warm. The optimum daytime temperature is considered to be 23-25 ° С, at night — 19-20 ° С.
Some growers practice a gentle decrease in temperature after the emergence of shoots: this is done to a minimum thermometer mark of 16 ° C, so that the stalks strengthen and do not reduce growth activity. In no case should there be sudden changes in temperature and drafts.
Peat substrate in cups should not dry out. Each stalk, depending on the level of humidity in the room and temperature, must be watered daily in small portions of settled water at room temperature. If the soil is heavily moistened, take a break of 1 day.
In order for the cucumber stems to harden and quickly bloom before a permanent transplant, it is necessary to feed the seedlings with organic or mineral complex fertilizers. It is desirable to carry out 2 dressings. Some advise for the first time to do this with a solution of urea or infusion of chicken manure. Then repeat in 2-3 weeks with “Effecton”. It is important to ensure that the tool does not fall on the foliage of the seedlings. Feed must be gently injected under the root.
If the foliage has turned yellow on the plants, nitrogen-containing components will help; if the leaves look pale, iron is needed, and if the stems are elongated, superphosphate will not interfere.
"Zozulya" does not like the cold either in the soil or in the air. Therefore, unhardened seedlings react very painfully to the conditions of the open ground. To avoid losses, a few weeks before the planned transplantation of cucumbers in sunny warm weather, put cups on the street. You need to start in the period from 4 to 5 pm, when the outside air is warm enough. You can also harden seedlings by opening a window for several hours.
Fresh air has a beneficial effect on it, contributing to an increase in immune forces. The main thing that "Zozulya" did not fall under the influence of cold wind flows, drafts. Minimum temperature + 8 ° С is allowed.
Planting seedlings on a permanent place
It is time to transplant cucumber seedlings with the arrival of stable heat, when there is no threat of spring frosts, and the earth has already warmed up. Most often, this period falls on the last 2 weeks of May.
A 25-day-old seedling of cucumbers, on which 4 leaflets have developed, is transplanted into a greenhouse or an open ground.
Choosing and preparing a place for cucumbers
Planning landings need to be organized in advance. First of all, pay attention to the predecessors of the cucumber culture (we will talk about them later). Then from the remaining areas, select a cucumber that is well lit and protected from the north winds.
The soil at this place should be soft and nourishing. Sandy loam and loam are not suitable for such purposes. Ideally, it should be enriched with black soil that absorbs moisture well. The terrain should not be located in lowlands, where cold air always collects, and on hills, where moisture evaporates quickly.
By the time of planting, weed plants will most likely appear on the bed under observation. Therefore, it is important to remove them by crushing the upper earth crust with a hoe and loosen the substrate. Some growers make organic supplements locally - directly in the wells before planting, while others embed them in the soil during the autumn plowing of the garden. Also, be careful with the neighbors "Zozuly." Experts recommend planting corn, dill, coriander on the north side of cucumbers, which, to the extent of growth, will protect the vines from cold winds. Such neighbors from the south are extremely undesirable, since, having darkened the sun, they will deprive the culture of conditions for full development.
At the site of the proposed planting, it is necessary to make holes up to 45 cm wide. Add up to 40 g of compost or humus to the bottom, and then squeeze peaty clumps of seedlings from the cups or cut them. Three plants are planted in watered holes, and then they are poured. In the open ground, cucumbers are usually planted in rows, leaving half-meter spacing. When greenhouse cultivation between plants observe a distance of 1 m. It is important not to thicken the planting, otherwise you risk growing hollow flowers. Experts believe that, regardless of the technology of growing vegetables, per 1 square meter should be no more than 3 stems.
So that the early cucumbers of the variety “Zozulya” do not suffer from possible temperature drops, as well as to accelerate the formation of the bush, it is recommended to even seasoned seedlings after planting. In recent years, small structures of several arched rods and polyethylene films have been particularly popular. The pins are fixed in the ground, and on top of them stretch the shelter. It creates a favorable microclimate that allows cucumbers to quickly tie up inflorescences. For this hybrid, this technique is very appropriate, since it is mainly dominated by female-type flowers (that is, those on which cucumbers are tied).
Consider that such shelters are bad protection for plants from spring frosts. In the case of their threat, it is better to take care of the second layer of the film in advance, which will allow to create air insulation. Single-layer construction is not removed until, until it begins to interfere with the development of bushes.
Watering, loosening and hilling
Cucumbers love heat and moisture. Therefore, the number of wetting beds should be such that the earthy room does not dry out. Water for watering uphold a few days. During this period, it will also be heated, since cold irrigation will do more harm than good. It is desirable to bring the liquid to a temperature of 20 degrees. You can water from a watering can or drip technology. Multiply the amount of moisture in the soil will be required during flowering and formation of the ovary. Make sure the drops are not sprayed on the foliage. All water should go under the root. In hot weather every day, pour about 2 liters of water under the plants.
However, an excess of moisture provokes the development of fungal pathogens, therefore, at temperatures below 25 ° C, there is no need for daily watering. It is enough to control the condition of the soil on a cucumber bed at a depth of 10 cm.
It is strictly forbidden to do sprinkling or other water procedures during the day. The best time for watering is early morning or evening, and the crops that have started fruiting are watered twice a day.
Agronomists call regular loosening of the earth and weeding from weeds as another important condition for the full-fledged vegetation of the plantation. First, these activities contribute to the aeration of the root system. And secondly, they do not allow unnecessary crops to take nutrients from the soil. It is possible to destroy a soil crust with a rake, and these procedures should be repeated after each watering.
Pinching the main shoot
At the request of the grower, you can pinch the central sprout. This is done for better development of the bush and cucumber vines. The place where the pinching takes place is located above the third leaf eye. By the way, this cardinal method often rescues cucumbers from fruitless inflorescences, because with the loss of the top of the main shoot, the stem begins to intensively increase the lateral branches with female flowers.
Fertilize the hybrid should be every 14 days. For these activities use a mixture of 1 liter of urea and manure, which is dissolved in a 10-liter bucket of water.
In the responses about the early ripe hybrid of “Zozulya F1”, gardeners pay attention to many positive moments of cultivation of the variety. He demands no more attention than other vegetable plants, but he will generously thank him with a stable and high-quality harvest.
Description and characteristics of the varieties of cucumbers zozulya
Bred by domestic breeders, a variety of cucumbers is suitable for cultivation in most regions. In open ground, yields are weaker than under film cover. It is a hybrid of early ripening. Productivity comes in 42-48 days from the moment of landing. Considered to be a high-yielding variety from one 1 m², up to 20 kg of cucumbers can be collected.
Cucumber Zozulya characterized by an average length of the lash, needs a garter.
Fruits reach a length of 24 cm. The shape is thin, cylindrical, with pimples and spikes. Cucumber color is rich green. It has a thin, soft skin. The pulp is fragrant with small seeds. On the bushes cucumbers do not overgrow. After harvesting for a long time keep a fresh look. Weight of one ripe cucumber to 300 gr. The variety is considered commercially attractive for subsequent sale.
A hybrid plant does not require pollination. However, planting male plants for pollination increases productivity. In the care of unpretentious variety, resistant to adverse weather conditions. The bush weakly weaves without side branches. Pinching and pinching is not necessary. Cucumbers do not turn yellow for a long time; they retain their presentation for up to 5-6 days provided they are properly stored.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Corners zozulya intended for making salads and eating fresh. For preservation, pickling and pickling, they are not suitable.
- Well kept in the refrigerator, if the storage rules are not followed, they become soft and shriveled.
- No damage to the growth bushes transfer temperature drops.
- High yield observed only with greenhouse cultivation.
- Planted better seeds The way of planting seedlings is very time consuming.
Requirements for soil for planting
The soil should be loose and sufficiently fertilized. In particular, cucumbers of this variety are grown in greenhouses. The soil is prepared taking into account the peculiarities of growing vegetable crops under the film. The soil should consist of peat, sod land and humus. The soil should have a neutral acidity. Light and fertile soil - a guarantee of high yield of cucumbers. The thickness of the fertile substrate should be 15–20 cm.
To protect the crop from diseases, the soil must be decontaminated. You can disinfect the soil with a solution of potassium permanganate. Potassium parchment (potassium permanganate) 3 gr. Is added to 10 liters of water. the resulting solution is watered in a greenhouse or garden. Summer residents often use mustard powder for soil disinfection. It is scattered over the ground, folded from above, using a rake.
Before planting cucumbers, soil is disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate
There are also chemical methods of soil disinfection. The introduction of drugs into the soil eliminates it from pathogens of fungal and bacterial diseases. Use funds according to the attached instructions. Recently, biological preparations have been widely used. After processing, the area is dug up, planting cucumbers can be carried out after 4-5 days.
- It is recommended to sow with seeds, exclusively purchased. When purchasing seeds, pay attention to the date of manufacture and shelf life.
- Seeds of this variety do not need to germinate. However, if you want them to ascend faster, they can be kept in a damp cloth for 2-3 days.
- Hole spacing must be respected within 30-35 cm.
- Recommended temperature condition for planting cucumbers Zozulya 25-28 degrees.
- The wells where the seeds are placed, watered, lightly sprinkled with sawdust and fall asleep with a thin layer of earth.
- Until the emergence of seedlings the wells are watered make sure the soil does not dry out.
- Also needed in the greenhouse control the temperature.
Care of the variety after planting in the greenhouse
There are no special recommendations regarding the cucumber variety, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the bushes so that they are not affected by diseases and pests. In the process of growth, bushes are formed, tied with whip ropes. Harvest regularly harvest, so that the greens are not overgrown. Water and fertilize fertilizing bushes. If necessary, use regulators and growth stimulants. Growing cucumbers in the open field, they better make shelter from the sun. Above the bushes to organize a canopy of garden fabric or any other material.
Diseases and their prevention
In greenhouses, cucumbers are ill more often than in open ground. Enclosed premises provoke the development of diseases. If the soil is not disinfected properly, cucumbers can be affected by melon aphid. The development of aphids occurs quickly, the cucumbers turn yellow, the appearance of the green of the bush changes. It is necessary to treat the plants with Carbofos, Phosbecid or the Commander.
Dangerous disease of cucumber cladosporiosis
Affected bushes are covered with ulcers of a green-brown color. On day 3, the leaves begin to darken, later collapse and dry. The disease often occurs in a period of high humidity, heavy rain. The disease affects the bushes and fruits. To help the plant, you need to stop watering. It should be processed Bordeaux liquid or means oxy. Processing is carried out according to the scheme indicated on the packaging.
Harvesting and storage rules
- Cucumbers are carefully removed from the kut, otherwise you can damage the plant. Zelentsy removed from the bush, pinch their tails with nails.
- Assembled harvest put in boxes. If you throw them, the presentation will spoil.
- Keep crates in a cool place. or a fridge. Shelf life up to 7 days.
- To wet the harvest is not necessary, to extend their safety, you can put a bucket of water in the room where cucumbers are stored.
Cucumbers Zozulya mainly grown in greenhouses. For blanks, they are not suitable, but give a good harvest. The variety has a good presentation, suitable for commerce. Does not require complex care. It has advantages over non-hybrid varieties.
An early harvest is possible for everyone!
I'll start with cucumbers. At the end of April we plant seedlings of the variety Zozulya (6 pcs.) Near the wall from the door (photo 1).
We pre-dig a trench, lay fresh grass in it, sprinkle it with earth - the seedlings on the grass “pillow” are comfortable and warm. Cucumbers grow quickly, just have time to pinch. I do the first pinching when the whips reach 70-80 cm - the rapid growth of the stepsons begins. I pinch through 40 cm in each bosom of the leaf. May was cold, little sun - this was manifested in stunted growth and weak pollination. Some ovaries died. And by the beginning of June a powerful bush with ovaries under each leaf was formed from each plant.
I tied the plants to a wire, stretched under the greenhouse ceiling, 1.7–2 m long. Yes, I almost forgot, mustache, too, must be removed. When Zozulya grows up to 0.5 m, we sow cucumber seeds in the rest of the greenhouse at a distance of 20 cm. And as soon as it gets warmer, we transplant to open ground. After 40-50 cm the rest will grow. But now with problem weather in May-June, the cucumbers planted later almost caught up with Zozulya. Still, the first cucumbers (photo 1) yielded a harvest two weeks earlier: these six bushes were given out daily! 0-15 Zelentsov 18-20 cm each (photo 2.3).
Our land is black earth, except for ash, I do not bring anything into the soil. I believe that everyone is able to grow seedlings Zozuli in the amount of 6-7 pcs. and provide yourself with an early harvest.
When the garden area allows you to grow cucumbers, few people bother with their garter: planted and sent for free flight.
The first stepson with one cucumber, and then at least 2 meters to grow, there will be no ovary. Such a stepson must be pinned right away (if the empty flower has gone after him). On the second or third stepchild there can be two cucumber, but no more. And only after the sixth leaf (maybe!) The Ovary will go on each leaf.
The main thing is that the stepson with the barren flower should not be missed: he will quickly “run away”, and he will have to look for him somewhere behind the neighboring bushes. And yet this stepchild will suck all nutrients out of the mother plant. To avoid this and each individual was visible (as well as to save space), I make one 6-meter bed in two rows with a vertical garter (photo 4).
On one row - three stakes (I have 3/4 inch pipes). At a height of 1.5 m (lower), a wire or rope is stretched, and an escape that has grown to 30 cm is attached to it, but with nothing but wire: we cut strips from old things - here someone will work like a fantasy. When the shoot grows up, we twist it with a rope. It is undesirable to admit an escape to a horizontal wire - it is better to pinch. There is enough harvest, we even share with neighbors and acquaintances, plus we roll up 3 3-liter cans. Cucumber pickle is the best hangover cure!
The secret of good seeds
While writing this letter, in an open garden the cucumbers grew, and it became clear that the majority of lashes were empty flowers. This happens when cucumber seeds are old - more than three years old or from last year’s harvest.
And much depends on the shape of the cucumber. Here is the advice that remains from our mothers: do not take seeds from a trihedral cucumber, only from tetrahedral (they used to be of this form). This means that there will be few cucumbers on the open garden, but the greenhouse will cope, although almost a third of empty flowers are there. They brought the seeds of some Seaside experimental station.
Zozulya is considered to be a cucumber, but it is also salted.
For some reason, few people grow peas at their dachas, but those who have children. But peas for them is a real delicacy. I know that neither his neighbors in the apartment, nor his neighbors in the country house cultivate him, but in our country everyone loves him. Plant it easier nowhere. When the peas grow to 20 cm, he needs to cling to something (photo 5).
Here I again stick six stakes into a 4-meter bed and pull the cord over each of the four rows along the bed, to which the peas cling. Will grow another 20 cm - again, I tie the cord, and so five times with peas of average height.
I tried to plant tall varieties - only more problems. But each pea is a vitamin pill. Already for the sake of children, it is worth planting peas. Remember your childhood! We plant peas every spring, he is not afraid of the cold, and we treat friends to the children. You should have seen their happy smiles! In addition, peas are a good siderat.

Zozulya out of competition - updated July 24, 2018
Now he took into account all the shortcomings of growing “vertical” cucumbers and decided on a new experiment.
According to the recommendations in various sources, I used to nip the main stem when it reached 70-80 cm. What worked? The stepchildren began to thrive in all the axils of the leaves of the main whip, quickly overtook the "mother" and did not allow the cucumbers, especially the lower ones, to grow on the main whip. Today I decided not to pinch the main stalk — let it grow even to the ceiling, and the stepchildren nipped at a height of 1 m. In this case, the main stalk restrains the growth of stepchildren, and all the cucumbers on it grow rapidly, and the stepchildren are gaining strength for their fruiting. As in the saying: do not climb across the dad, and in this case - forward Nurse. Both “mother” and stepchildren bear fruit evenly until autumn (photo 1).
Leaves removed as ripening lower cucumbers.
They are no longer needed, especially since they start to hurt, the aphid settles on them. Last year, I quickly shortened it, removing it with the leaves. I never use chemistry. Was the case
after planting the seedlings began to languish, sprayed with serum - and the problem was solved.
Seedlings in a greenhouse planted 10 cucumbers Zozulya. When they began to bear fruit, they planted other varieties: Courage, Russian style, Garland, True friends. But they didn’t impress me: either a lot of barren, then curves, they stick out, sometimes they are thick for salting. Therefore, almost all the “wagons” were pulling on Zozulya: cucumbers are excellent for salting (photo 2).
In the open garden (initially under the film) Zozulya is also out of competition: it does not require any pollination, the variety is resistant to diseases, prolonged fruiting, 15-25 kg yield. The size of cucumbers is 12-15 cm, you miss, they will grow further, up to 25 cm, and quite edible.
In the spring, the weather did not please, applied additional shelter. When planting seedlings of 30 cm, the lashes were already tied, canvases of covering material were attached to clothesline with clothespins on both sides of the plants. In the upper part of the canvas are connected. Then I took one of the canvases.
My wife and I decided to plant only Zozulya next year in a greenhouse. Only we will plant less often: not in 50, but in 70-80 cm. In the photo 3 “The Caparion” is on the lap of the mother - “Root”.

Growing early varieties seedling method
Growing by seedlings accelerates the production of fruits by an average of two weeks. For early harvest choose the following varieties of cucumbers:
- Little finger,
- Chinese (farm or "Chinese snakes") and others.
All the above varieties of cucumbers have good varietal qualities and yield.
Seed preparation for sowing
To obtain high-quality seedlings, you must select the appropriate planting material. There are varietal seeds and hybrids.
Hybrids (packaging is marked with the abbreviation "F1") self-pollinated, resistant to diseases, more intended for greenhouses.
- Before sowing, select large, full-bodied seeds.
- Then hold them in a solution of potassium permanganate for 20 minutes.
- Then rinse with water.
- Instead of potassium permanganate use a two-percent solution of hydrogen peroxide or a solution of boric acid (half a teaspoon of powder per cup of water).
- To separate non-sprouting seeds, they are germinated until the appearance of roots 0.5 cm long, placing them in a moist environment. For this purpose, wet gauze or fabric, folded in 2-3 layers, cotton wool, sawdust is also used.
If you plan to plant seedlings in open ground, seeds preferably hardened. Soaked seeds, placed in a damp cloth, two days stored in a refrigerator at a temperature of from 0 to 2 degrees. After hardening, landing.
Sowing seeds and growing seedlings
It is important to calculate the sowing time.so that the size of the seedlings is optimal. Early planting of seedlings leads to freezing of the plant. Too late planting will delay the time of fruiting. The term of sowing will depend, first of all, from the place of growing cucumbers: in open ground or in greenhouse. As a rule, cucumbers are planted in heated greenhouses in early March. In film and glazed greenhouses - in the middle of May. In the middle lane, for unheated greenhouses, sowing of seeds is carried out in mid-April, and for soil at the end of April.
Sowing it is desirable to carry out in peat cups into the soil spilled beforehand with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Also, small pots, paper cups, and jars of dairy products are used as containers. Soil is chosen with a high content of peat.
Seeds deepen by 1-2 cmsprinkled with primer. Glasses are placed in a pallet, covered with a film and put in a warm place. After the emergence of seedlings (after 3-4 days), the film is removed, the seedlings are placed on a bright window.
After germination double culling ugly or lagging behind seedlings.
Watering carried out every 2-3 days with separated water. To maintain humidity, it is recommended to put cans of water between the glasses.
At the time of planting in open ground shoots should reach the age of 2-3 weeks and have 3-4 leaves.
When and how to plant "April" cucumbers for seedlings
April - a high-yielding early cucumber hybrid, ideal for canning. The variety is self-pollinating, it can be grown on a windowsill.
Hybrid seeds are usually prepared for planting by the manufacturer. but Many gardeners additionally process seeds. In this case, the planting material is subjected to sorting, heating, etching with a solution of manganese and germination with further hardening.
Seedlings planted on the 20-25 day after germination. The increased cold resistance of this variety allows it to be planted in open ground in mid-May. Therefore, for the timely receipt of seedlings, the seeds should be sown in late April.
Features of growing seedlings of cucumbers "Zozulya"
Zozulya - productive early ripe self-pollinated hybrid. The seedling method is optimal for obtaining a good crop of cucumbers of this variety. Also, like the previous hybrid, Zozulya germinate and sow in special peat pots.
Usually seeds are planted a month before planting in a permanent place. As with the previous variety, the optimal time for sowing is the end of April. The variety is afraid of dampness, so the soil should dry well between watering. Transplanting seedlings carried out after May 15, when the soil is well heated. Usually Zozulya grown in greenhouses. When transplanting into the open ground, it is desirable to cover the seedlings at night, so as not to freeze.
Differences cultivation of seedlings varieties "Herman"
Herman - superearly high-yielding variety, adapted both for cultivation in open beds, and in hotbeds. Differs powerful seedlings, poorly tolerated transplant. Sowing of seeds should be carried out in spacious containers, and it will not be difficult to remove the seedlings from them.
Poor resistance to low temperatures allows you to plant plants in open ground only after warming the air to plus 15-20 degrees without sudden drops. The first fruits appear 40 days after germination.
Planting "Chinese" cucumbers for seedlings
Sort characterized by unpretentiousness, yield, long fruits of impressive size, excellent taste indicators. Differs poor germination in the open field, so more often grown seedlings. In addition, the seedling method provides better qualities, such as size and shape.
Seed treatment and planting on seedlings is carried out in a standard way. Seeds planted in pots with a diameter of at least 25 centimeters. Shoots appear after 6-7 days, and sometimes after 2 weeks. The ideal temperature for germination is 32 degrees.
In the open ground Chinese cucumbers planted at the age of 25-30 days when reaching 15-20 cm in height. Under the covering material seedlings are planted in mid-May, and in the ground - in early June.
