All wild flowers of the field, improved by breeders, require additional care for maximum efficiency, and cornflower is no exception. He received the recognition of gardeners for the natural beauty, especially terry varieties that can transform the look of any flower garden. The main advantage is the ease of cultivation, because it is easy to implement it with seeds that are sown directly into the ground. Especially newcomers will like this annual plant: you do not have to plant capricious seedlings, you can avoid the hassle of the greenhouse. Having learned the nuances of agrotechnology, taking into account practical recommendations, you can look at the photo in order to think over the landing site in advance.

Better conditions

Cornflower terry created by nature for the sun, wind and any soil. But it is important for any gardener to get high-quality flowering, the most vivid and abundant, especially since you can enjoy from July until frost. This directly depends on the characteristics of the soil; it may require a simple adjustment depending on the type of soil:

  • alkaline - the maximum intensity of flowering,
  • clay - add sand,
  • sour - make lime.

Council It is necessary to prepare the soil for the next year in advance: Late is distributed in a thin layer in late autumn.

Not bad to attend to the drainage of the soil before planting - cornflowers do not tolerate stagnant water. You should always prefer the most sunny places, make sure that companion plants with mixed plantings do not block the bushes. Therefore, it is preferable to plant them in the foreground of difficult rabatok and flower beds.

Site preparation

Cornflowers of almost all varieties in the middle lane are sown directly in open ground in late April. Sometimes the nuances of weather conditions can move the dates to the beginning of May. The preparatory process is absolutely simple. Begin with soil improvement. For a small standard bed, an area of square meter is taken:

  • 2 kg of humus,
  • 2 kg of peat,
  • 100 g wood ash
  • 6-10 g nitrofoski.

Nitrophoska is a classic mineral fertilizer with a composition of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus in the form of salts. For a cornflower, a formula with an equal content of these elements is suitable in order to fully develop all parts of the plant. You can take the composition of presowing fertilizers with a high calcium content to enhance the decorative qualities: flower size, color saturation. In principle, any similar agrochemical, which is commercially available.

Having dug the beds with a recess of 20–25 cm, the soil should be precipitated by light tamping. Make shallow grooves with the distance between rows of 30-40 cm. Plentifully watered.

The process of planting and the first shoots

Experienced gardeners are always trying to simplify their work and improve the result. In relation to planting a cornflower, it is worth using non-woven covering materials after the seeds have been brought into the prepared soil and sprinkled with a small layer of sifted earth. Conditions for watering future cornflowers:

  • carried out directly on the material
  • interval of 2-3 days
  • on this bed - about 2 liters of water.

Shoots will be pleased with the appearance in 7-10 days: then the shelter is removed. Critical selection allows you to leave the strongest plants, while thinning out.

Depending on the approximate height of a particular cornflower variety, they are guided by the interval between bushes:

  • 5-15 cm - tall,
  • 20-30 cm - undersized.

The last rule should be strictly followed, as they grow quite strongly: the possible shading from each other will not do them good. And especially high varieties will be able to support each other during bad weather, their bushes structure is not so fluffy, unlike squat relatives.

Flowering: best results

All activities related to fertilizer for better flowering should be carried out in advance. For these purposes, the same agrochemical like nitrophosphate and urea will do. The latter contains a high concentration of nitrogen, without acidifying the soil. It is the combined use of these two fertilizers that shows the best results.

A small amount is diluted in water and irrigated at the rate of 3-4 liters per square meter. Do not overdo it with the recommended rate, it can cause the color of the green mass to turn yellow, reduce flowering.

Council Well proven drug "Zircon", acting at the cellular level and used before the formation of buds.

Watering and related care

The basic rule is no excessive watering. The abundance of moisture can destroy decorative varieties of cornflower. If the weather conditions are not the most favorable way, it will help more active loosening of the soil. Periodic weeding will not hurt either.

The main advantage of cornflower in terms of caring activities - he does not get sick, even such a common powdery mildew. Pests are not afraid of him either. It has a positive effect on the wild origin.

The only disease that a cornflower is susceptible to is fungal fusarium, triggered by excessive humidity, rapid temperature changes. Visual symptoms: dark spots on the leaves. The problem can be solved in two ways, and here the opinions of gardeners are divided:

  1. Eco-friendly. Mullein infusion in proportion with water 1: 1 insist 3 days, spend watering and wait for the result. Wood ash, sprinkled with a thin layer, can also serve as a preventive measure, because the disease is infected with the soil.
  2. Chemical. Fundazol is a proven drug by florists, guaranteed to stop the division of fungi. The therapeutic effect manifests itself almost immediately. But lovers of natural, absolutely non-toxic measures, of course, will not work. Some gardeners prefer prophylaxis with Fitosporin-M.

Planting material

Freshly harvested cornflower seeds (in August) are able to remain viable for a couple of years. In their natural state are in baskets, up to 300 seeds in which they can be stored.

Perennial varieties are planted far from all, because they bloom only in the second year after planting, will have to deal with the division of the bush, shelter for the winter.

The Polka Dot cultivar received particular recognition, being distinguished by its large flowers of various colors at the same time with good compactness. But you should pay attention that you still have to buy seeds. After a few years, the hybrid features disappear, and the special variety is transformed into a normal one.

But even the simplest varieties amaze with their charm. Being a rather unpretentious plant with elementary planting conditions, cornflowers will suit even beginner growers. After all, to get a good flowering, abundant and rich, a minimum of care and attention is enough.

Plant characteristic

Terry varieties of cornflower are characterized by larger inflorescences-baskets of 4 cm in size and various colors. Thanks to breeders, cornflowers can have flowers:

  • white,
  • sky blue
  • pink,
  • red,
  • burgundy,
  • lilac,
  • ink purple
  • purple,
  • chocolate and other shades.

All varieties of cornflowers are characterized by long flowering, which often lasts from June to September.

Growing cornflowers, gardeners give preference to perennial varieties, which are easy to cultivate, sowing seeds in the spring or autumn directly into the open ground.

At one place such varieties can grow up to 10 years, although it is better to rejuvenate shrubs every 4 years.

Attention! Cornflower is on the list of a mixture of herbs traditionally used to create Moorish lawn.

Terry cornflowers on the height of the stem can be divided into several groups:

  • undersized - up to 25 cm in height, designed for the design of alpine slides, borders or planting in the flower beds in the foreground,
  • sredneroslye - 25-60 cm tall, which allows their use when creating mixborders, flower beds, rabatok or for cutting,
  • tall - 60-120 cm tall, designed for cutting and group planting when creating rabatok, flower beds, they look great against the background of low densely ornamental shrubs.

Cornflowers terry look harmoniously in joint plantings with perennial herbs, poppies, aquilegia, cosmea, calendula, dicentre, catnip, and sundeck. High decorative qualities of the variety: “Dwarf purple”, “Terry mixture”, “Shelf Dot mix”, “Plena azurea”, “Carminea”, “Plena alba”,

Features of sowing cornflower

When planting in open soil, terry cornflower is sown in April-May, which allows it to achieve flowering only by July. Sowing cornflowers in March, and growing them in a greenhouse, allows you to get ready to bloom plants 1-1.5 months earlier.

If cassettes or peat cups are used to grow seedlings of cornflowers, they should be filled with fertile soil. Then with the help of a sharpened chopstick, put the cornflower seed into 2-3 prepared containers. Sprinkle with soil, moisten, cover with film or glass.

When using peat tablets, they should be prepared in advance by soaking in water until they swell. Then, using a stick in the middle of each tablet, place a few seeds, sprinkle with soil is not necessary. A box with seeds sown in tablets should be covered with a transparent lid and placed on the windowsill, or if the crops are in the greenhouse, placed on a rack so that they have free access to light. The temperature in the greenhouse should be at the level of + 18-20 ° C. The emergence of shoots should be expected in a week. Prior to this, daily open the shelter for airing and moistening the soil.

At emergence of shoots a cornflower, the shelter should be removed. During the first 3-4 days after emergence, the temperature in the greenhouse should be reduced to + 13-15 ° C to allow the sprouts to grow stronger. Caring for seedlings in the greenhouse does not require much effort, it is enough to ensure it:

  • good lighting with the help of lamps, to avoid pulling sprouts and loosening them,
  • watering without waterlogging
  • thinning of seedlings, by pinching weak shoots.

Grown up seedlings of cornflowers in May can be transplanted to a permanent place. When choosing a place for planting a cornflower, it should be remembered that these flowers grow better in well-lit areas and prefer loose soils with neutral acidity.

Tip! Conducting liming will allow subacid soils to make suitable for the cultivation of cornflowers.

Care rules

So that the cornflowers do not shade each other as they grow, they are planted at a distance of at least 15-50 cm from each other. Cornflowers are transplanted by transshipment method. To do this, add some ash mixed with loose fertile soil to the prepared wells, put one seedling into each well, without taking it out of a peat cup or tablet. If the seedlings were grown in cassettes, then with the help of a diving stick the plants, together with the earthy clod, are removed from them and planted in the holes. Planted plants sprinkled with soil, compacted and watered.

Care for cornflower terry, after its disembarkation to a permanent place, is:

  • in moderate watering, without waterlogging,
  • as necessary - in weeding and loosening,
  • in fertilization during the budding period for more intensive coloring in flower baskets,
  • it is possible to accelerate the blooming of cornflower cornflower, if at the beginning of the budding period the plants are sprayed with a solution of “Zircon”,
  • dusting the plants and the soil with ashes will prevent the damage of the cornflowers with Fusarium. With the same purpose, you can use a solution of foundation.

When growing cornflower cornflowers for cutting, they should be fed every 2 weeks with fertilizer, which will protect the plants from exhaustion. These unpretentious flowers practically do not suffer from fungal diseases and pests. In case of infection with spider mites, the upper part of the plant should be cut and destroyed. At the same time, the plant will not die, and next year it will delight with regrown shoots.

Cornflowers terry withstand low temperatures, almost never freeze, so do not require additional shelter in the winter. If desired, several bushes in the autumn can be dug, transplanted into pots and brought into the house, then the cornflower will delight its bloom for some time.

Already in the second year, these flowers are capable of producing high-grade seeds that can be independently harvested to grow new seedlings.

Growing seedlings of cornflower cornflower in the greenhouse by sowing seeds in separate containers, will allow you to get strong plants ready to bloom in late spring. This method effectively solves the problem of decorating a garden plot, creating flower beds, mixborders, step flower beds.

Flower characteristic

Cornflower is considered an ornamental culture and can have a variety of colors - white to deep purple. In this variety, inflorescences are terry, towering on thin branched stems, reaching a height of 50 cm, and the diameter of the flowers themselves is 6 cm.

This plant looks great:

These flowers make wonderful borders and rabatki, they can also be planted in arrays or in separate groups.

Growing terry cornflower seed

This flower is an annual plant, its planting is carried out in a seedless manner, sowing seeds directly into the ground. When is the best time to plant seeds? The best time for this is the end of April or the beginning of May.

Growing cornflower seed should be held in a sunny place. This flower prefers soil:

  • well drained
  • non-acidic
  • sandy loam

It is believed that on alkaline soil the cultivation of these plants from seeds is much more intensive, and their color becomes brighter. If the earth is clay, sand should be added to it, and lime should be added to the acidic soil before planting the cornflowers, and this should be done before the onset of winter.

Landing rules

Before growing cornflower seed for him prepare the beds. To do this, per m2 take 2 kg of humus and peat, adding 100 g of wood ash and 1 tbsp. l nitrofoski. After that, they dig up the beds, making a depression of 25 cm, level the soil and tamp it down a little, creating small grooves. The soil is plentifully watered and seeds are sown in it, and 1 cm of well sifted earth is poured over them. Then the soil is gently tamped with the hand, and the beds are covered with fabric material.

To create a flower arrangement, the rows must be formed in such a way that the cornflowers do not subsequently create a shadow for each other. Therefore, they should be planted with 40 to 50 cm steps.

After planting the seeds, the beds are watered from above directly over the material and do this every 2 to 3 days. For 1 m2 use 2 liters of water. Terry cornflowers begin to emerge in a week or two after planting of seeds, in this case, this fabric is removed. In order for plants to be strong, they should be thinned out, leaving an interval between them of 10 to 12 cm.

Growing terry cornflowers can be carried out not only on the beds, but also in pots on the balcony. Planting material maintains its germination for 2 - 3 years.

To grow strong and beautiful flowers, you need to properly care for them. Therefore it is necessary to adhere to the following recommendations.

Fertilization

In order to achieve abundant flowering of cornflowers, they should be fertilized, and this should be done before the onset of such a period. To do this, use components such as:

  • urea,
  • nitrophoska.

Take them 1 tbsp. l and diluted in 10 liters of ordinary water. This solution begins to water the plants, consuming 3-4 liters of fertilizer per 1 m2. Excessive feeding contributes to yellowing of the leaves. To accelerate the bloom of cornflowers helps such a drug as "Zircon". This means the plant is sprayed before budding.

Watering and pest control

Growing flowers should be watered, but this should be done in moderation. Excessive soil moisture only harms the plants and they can even die. It is also necessary to regularly carry out weeding and loosen the soil.

Cornflower can be affected by fusarium, resulting in dark spots on its leaves. In this case, chemical means of protection are used, namely, the plant is treated with a foundation. However, many gardeners recommend first apply more environmentally safe methods - sprinkle the flower with ashes or water it with infusion made from fresh manure. To prepare it, take three parts of a mullein and the same amount of water, mix and insist for 3 days. The use of this infusion allows not only to get rid of the fungal disease, but also helps to feed the plant.

Thus, we found out that the terry cornflower is a rather unpretentious plant, and it is also easy to grow it from seeds. It is able to grow on a sufficiently problematic soil without using additional fertilizer. But only the proper care of the cornflower is able to make it a real decoration of any infield.

Description and types of cornflower terry

Cornflower is popularly called cyanosis, blavatom, blueflower, laskutnitsa and other colorful names. Это растения семейства сложноцветных с одиночными соцветиями-корзинками. Людям всегда нравились букеты из этих полевых цветов, но махровые сорта выглядят еще более декоративно.Among their colors are even yellow and burgundy, which is quite unusual for cornflower.

In the structure of the flower can be seen funnel-shaped and tubular inflorescences. The leaves have a gray-green color. They can be both dissected feathery and whole. Among modern hybrids there are annual and perennial species.

  • From the most common one-year blue cornflower obtained varieties with pale blue and pink color (JubileeGem, Florence Pink). knapweed Musky characterized by rather small purple inflorescences.
  • Of the perennial species, a new species has become widespread. "Shelf Dot Mix" with large buds of different colors. Gardeners also love cornflower Whitewashedgrowing spherical shrub up to 60 cm in height. Its inflorescences are white and pink in color. Cornflower Fisher - pretty squat bush with yellow flowers, very convenient for growing. Cornflower mountain grows up to half a meter and has inflorescences of different color, depending on the variety.

Landing place

Cornflower terry is more often grown as an annual, therefore the places for its planting can be changed, without regard to this aspect intently. Be sure to keep in mind that this is a light-loving culture. It is advisable to plant these flowers in sunny areas. For quality flowering need loose, not sour soil. In alkaline soil plants bloom with rich, bright colors and flowering is more abundant.

If clay is predominant in the soil in the summer cottage, it is recommended to mix it with coarse sand before planting. And if the acidity of the soil is too high, it will have to be liming it. They do this not on the eve of planting, but in advance, it is best before winter begins - for this, a layer of lime up to 1 cm thick is scattered over the ground surface.

It is best to sow flowers for growing against the backdrop of greenery. They look good in a composition with bushes of peonies or irises. In any case, try to select plants for group planting so that the flowering time they do not match. Then each variety of colors in a certain period of time will be able to solo.

Works before and after landing

When planting cornflower terry growing from seed should coincide with the end of the period of possible frosts. The best time for sowing is from late April to early May.

  • Before you plant a cornflower, you need to properly prepare the bed. For each square meter of planting add 1 kg of peat and humus, 100 g of wood ash and 1 tbsp. l Nitrofoski, dug up to a depth of 5 cm, so that the soil becomes loose and uniform. Then the landing area is slightly compacted and dug shallow grooves under the seeds. The land is well watered.
  • After preparing the soil, you can begin sowing seeds in the grooves. From above the crops are sprinkled with a layer of soil 1 cm thick. After this, the plantings are covered with non-woven material.
  • Already covered planting must be watered again. Water freely penetrates the shelter and moisturizes the earth, it should not bother you. Crops continue to be abundantly watered every 2-3 days, until sprouts appear.
  • The first shoots begin to spit on the bed a week later. Now the shelter can be removed.
  • Picks are performed when all the seeds germinate. Leave the strongest and largest plants, frail sprouts clean. Between plants it is necessary to observe a distance of 15-20 cm.
  • Thermophilous species, for example, Cornflower Muskny planted rassadny wayby sowing their homes in peat cups, which are then dropped in open ground. This method is best suited as these flowers do not tolerate the transplant.

Care of a cornflower in an open ground

Cornflower belongs to those plants that grow well and bloom even in poor soil, but if the plant is fed, the process will be more fun.

4-5 days before the start of flowering, the bushes are fertilized with a nutrient solution based on nitrophosphate and urea, adding 1 tbsp. spoon a ten-liter bucket of water of both.

This will provide flowers with all the necessary nutrients. You can repeat the procedure in 2-4 weeks. If the leaves began to turn yellow, it indicates a surplus of fertilizers.

Part of care is weeding and timely thinning of plants. In hot, dry weather, they need watering. In faded specimens, it is necessary to remove dried inflorescences along with the stems, so that the flowers have a neat appearance and continue flowering.

Possible problems

For all its simplicity due to unsuitable growing conditions or lack of care cornflowers can be subject to various diseases. In wet cool weather dark spots may appear on the leaves of plants. This is evidence that the fungus multiplied and caused fusarium. To bring the flowers into shape, they are watered with a solution of foundationol.

By the way, from fungal diseases, cornflowers are able to protect watering infusion mullein. It is prepared by mixing the fertilizer in equal proportions with water, at the same time the plants will receive additional feeding. Another folk remedy is ash. She shoots shoots and leaves of sick specimens. In perennial species, the affected leaves and stems are cut short to obtain healthy plants the following year.

To the note: cornflowers can multiply by self-sowing and require in this case a minimum of care. Your task is to thin out the sprouted shoots. After 2-3 years of such cultivation, the plants lose their original varietal properties, and after 5-6 they completely degenerate. In such a situation, it will be necessary to purchase new seeds for planting..

Choosing a place

Before planting seeds valka, you must first decide on the grade. If it is a tall plant, then the choice of the site should be based on its height. Terry highly cornflowers must be planted in the background of a flower bed or in its center. But lower plants can be located at the foot of high fellows.

If you are planting a cornflower with multi-colored flowers, then you need to take care of the background. Best of all, it was monotonous. An excellent option would be the green foliage of a plant, such as an iris or peony.

They will be a great company for terry cornflower. But planted near the terry flowers of asters is completely unwise. Colorful asters and cornflowers will look ridiculous. In addition, these plants often coincide even in growth.

It is impossible to grow terry cornflower in areas where there is shade or partial shade. Under natural conditions, cornflower grows on the spacious fields, where there is no shade of trees.

So when choosing a place, it is necessary to take into account these nuances and create maximum natural conditions. So no shelter from the heat for the plant is not needed.

Once you have chosen a sunny place, you need to pay attention to the soil. Terry cornflowers are among those crops that grow well on any soil. But if the land is lime and fertilized, the culture will answer you with lush flowering. Can be planted near the wicker fence.

If you want to grow perennial terry cornflowers, then plant them in open ground is October-November or in April. After 10-12 days you can see the first shoots. Flowering can be observed next year. In August, faded shoots cut and collect seeds for subsequent crops.

If you decide to decorate your flower bed with a cornflower terry, then you do not need to take care of growing the seedlings in advance. This plant has a high germination rate even with direct seeding. Still, the root system of the cornflower terry is pivotal, so the culture transports the transplant reluctantly. When sowing the seeds must not be located close to each other.

How to care

To terry cornflowers gave abundant flowering, you need to take care of fertilizer and. This is to be done during the budding period. Nitrophoska and urea are excellent for these purposes. Take them to 20 g, add to 10 liters of water. The resulting solution to use for watering plants. 3-4 m2 of fertilizer per 1 m2. For irrigation, you can use submersible drainage pumps for dirty water.

To accelerate the flowering of terry cornflower, you can use the method of spraying Zircon. This tool is worth using right before the formation of buds. To 1 liter of water accounts for 1 ml of the drug. The resulting solution will be enough to handle 30 m2 of landing.

As for watering, for terry cornflowers, it should be moderate. Water the plant only if the code dries the ground. More care includes weeding and loosening the soil. When watering plants can not allow standing water, as this will begin to rot the roots, and the bushes themselves will die.

After a single planting, the annual crop continues to grow on the site, as its reproduction occurs independently - self-sowing. The task of gardeners is to control this process and, if necessary, to thin out the plantings.

As for pests, terry cornflower with proper care is not influenced by disease. Otherwise, the plant infects fusarium. This disease is manifested in the form of dark spots on the leaves. It is possible to treat illness, but for this it is necessary to use chemical means. Most often, the treatment is carried out with the use of foundation.

And to illuminate the colors, you can use street outdoor lighting.

However, many gardeners in practice use a safer option of struggle. To do this, cornflower need to be drained with ashes or irrigated with infusion based on fresh manure. To prepare the last composition, you need to take 3 parts of mullein and 3 parts of water. Insist the composition of 3 days. This tool allows you to stop fungal afflictions, and will also become an excellent foliar fertilizer for terry plants.

But only in this case it is necessary to take into account that excessive use of nutrients can lead to yellowing of foliage in terry cornflowers, as well as deteriorated flowering.

Fly Cornflowers are hybrid plants that are not very different from field cornflowers. They have similar colors and other varietal characteristics. But only terry varieties can be grown in a flower bed with minimal care. All that is required for normal growth and abundant flowering is irrigation, soil loosening, fertilization and prevention against pests and diseases. How to grow cornflower terry from seed and does the plant need special care? - Flowers

Wildflowers look very tender and sweet. Growing cornflower terry from seed is not difficult. This is a surprisingly unpretentious plant that grows as freely as a real field cornflower. But unlike him, the species bred by the breeders is distinguished by a large variety of shades. They can be not only blue, but also white and purple. And some species are able to give inflorescences of different colors.

What soil need cornflowers?

Terry inflorescences of a plant rise on thin stalks half a meter high. They can be planted in flower beds in arrays or in small groups, create borders. Beautiful look and bouquets. There are also undersized varieties that look even more interesting on flowerbeds.

Terry cornflowers are not for nothing loved by gardeners. After all, their cultivation is not difficult, there is no need for any special skills. Care is also needed minimum. But still some knowledge will be useful.

These plants can be safely grown from seeds, and sow them immediately into the open ground. There is no need for seedlings. Although if there is a desire to keep the flowers in the pots on the balcony, it is possible. The best time for landing is April-May. We must pay attention to the soil. For the cultivation of cornflowers is best suited this soil: drained, slurry, non-acidic. If the soil is alkaline, the colors will be brighter and more saturated. Clay soil must be mixed with sand, sour - with lime. This should be done in advance, even before the onset of winter.

Before direct planting should be engaged in fertilizing the soil. To do this, a top dressing per square meter is added to the selected site: 2 kg of humus and peat, a large spoonful of nitrophoska and 100 g of wood ash. It is important to pay attention to the location of this site. Cornflowers love the sun, they are light-requiring. So there should be no shadow on it. Although these plants are unpretentious, they are able to bloom in the shade. But this is impossible to guarantee, besides flowering will not be so lush, and the brightness of colors will suffer.

How to sow seeds?

Now it's time to make the beds. They dig up the flower bed, make a dimple of about 25 cm. Then level the ground, crush it a little and make shallow grooves. Before sowing, it is thoroughly moistened, and then the seeds are planted. From above it is necessary to fill in in advance the sifted earth. At the end of the procedure, the area is covered with a special cloth.

After landing has been made, beds should be watered. Do this directly through the fabric material, repeat every couple of days. Approximately in a week the first shoots will appear. At this point, covering material must be removed. After some time, sprouts should be thinned, leaving a distance of about 10 cm. Flowers in the future should not obscure each other.

Peculiarities of care

To the cornflowers bloom profusely and delight the eye with bright colors, they need the right care. It consists in regular feeding and watering. Even before flowering the soil must be fertilized. To do this, use urea and nitrophoska. They are taken in a large spoon and dissolved in 10 liters of water. Then, with the appeared drug, the beds are watered. Only it is not recommended to overdo it: if there is too much feeding, then the leaves may turn yellow. To accelerate the onset of flowering, you can treat the plants with the drug "Zircon". This is done before budding begins.

Tip! Cornflower can be grown together with daisies, white chamomiles, summer adonis, calendula. Together they form a bright flower garden.

Care includes mandatory watering. It should be regular, but not too abundant. Cornflower wetting can damage, there is a risk that the plants will disappear. We need to weed away the weeds and loosen.

Terry cornflower is subject to some diseases. For example, Fusarium is common. It is easily recognizable by the dark spots that are clearly visible on the leaves. In such situations, the treatment of the plant with the base is shown. Experienced gardeners recommend trying bezosnye before using chemicals.

Job calendar

Most of the cornflowers are annuals. If the gardener sows them, then next summer they will multiply on their own. Additional landing is not necessary. Self seeding needs to be monitored. If sprouts appear too thick, they should be thinned out. There are perennial flowers. They are recommended to rejuvenate every four years. It is best to do this by dividing the bushes.

Growing terry cornflowers can be carried out, focusing on such a calendar of works:

  • April. There is a landing of seeds, do it at once in an open ground.
  • May. Plant care during this period consists in top dressing; special complex fertilizers are suitable for this.
  • June. As needed, the flower bed should be watered, avoiding over-moisture. Also need loosening and weeding.
  • July. Cornflowers should continue to be watered. If they are planted sufficiently densely, then care is simplified, since weeds grow more slowly.
  • August. It is time to remove the flowering inflorescences, and closer to the end of the month - to collect the seeds.
  • Plants should be pruned between September and October. As needed, weeding or digging up the soil and fertilizer need to be done. For acidic soils, liming is recommended every three years. To do this, scatter lime or dolomite flour over the surface.

Terry cornflowers are delicate flowers that are very easy to grow. No need for seedlings, they will grow well immediately in the open field. And the soil can be quite problematic, quite minimal fertilizers. Although often it turns out to do without them.

But like any ornamental plant, cornflower needs some care. It is watering as needed, weeding and loosening the soil. And then the flower bed will look bright and well-groomed.
